Grilled Bison Pizza

Grilling pizza might sound a little unusual if you have never tried it before, but once you do, it is hard to go back. This recipe earned third place in our Summer BBQ Recipe Contest and was created by one of our followers who decided to take pizza night outside.

The grill gives the crust a little extra texture and flavor while the toppings do the rest of the work. Loaded with Great Range Bison, cheese, sauce, and plenty of savory goodness, this pizza proves that some of the best grilling ideas happen when you think beyond burgers and hot dogs.

Ground bison works especially well on pizza because it adds rich flavor without overpowering everything else. It pairs naturally with the sauce, cheese, and crust, giving every slice a little extra heartiness while still letting the other ingredients shine.

Here’s what Felicia said about why she chose this as her final winner:

“It’s best to move quickly when making this pizza, especially if grilling outdoors – the crust burns easily, so keep an eye on your temp too!

But if you can move quickly enough, you are certainly in for a delicious bison pizza!”

  2. Dust a clean, flat surface with the flour. Stretch the pizza dough into your desired shape and size.

  3. Brush olive oil on one side of crust and place it oil side down on your grill. Cook for about 3 minutes, until the crust is bubbly is browning. Brush the remaining olive oil on the top of the crust and flip it over.

  4. Apply sauce as desired to pizza crust and top with cheese, ground bison, and red onion. Cook with toppings on for about 5 minutes until don. Remove from grill, sprinkle on the fresh basil leaves then cut and serve.

Recipe Notes

What Laura had to say about her recipe:
This pizza is delicious and you can make it with a store-bought dough or your own pizza dough recipe. When you are stretching the dough, you want the crust to be on the thinner side. Do not overfill the toppings on the pizza crust.
