Grilled Bison Pizza by Laura Daray
This is our 3rd place winner of the first ever Great Range Bison recipe contest. We can't get enough of this tasty pizza recipe! Our guest judge, Felicia from The Starving Chef loves it too and had this to say about it:
It’s best to move quickly when making this pizza, especially if grilling outdoors – the crust burns easily, so keep an eye on your temp too! But if you can move quickly enough, you are certainly in for a delicious bison pizza!
- 1 lbs (1 package) ground bison meat
- 2-3 cups mozzarella cheese - shredded
- 1-2 cups pizza sauce
- store bought pizza dough - or homemade
- 1/2 red onion - sliced
- 1 bunch fresh basil
- flour - for dusting
- 2-3 tablespoons olive oil
- salt and pepper - to taste
Heat grill to 450 F. Brown the bison meat over medium heat, seasoning with salt and pepper to your own taste.
Dust a clean, flat surface with the flour. Stretch the pizza dough into your desired shape and size.
Brush olive oil on one side of crust and place it oil side down on your grill. Cook for about 3 minutes, until the crust is bubbly is browning. Brush the remaining olive oil on the top of the crust and flip it over.
Apply sauce as desired to pizza crust and top with cheese, ground bison, and red onion. Cook with toppings on for about 5 minutes until don. Remove from grill, sprinkle on the fresh basil leaves then cut and serve.
What Laura had to say about her recipe:
This pizza is delicious and you can make it with a store-bought dough or your own pizza dough recipe. When you are stretching the dough, you want the crust to be on the thinner side. Do not overfill the toppings on the pizza crust.
